The Lamia and the Naga

Begining

The Lamia and the Naga did not begin as science fiction stories, they began as an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons adventure. My character was a paladin, teamed with a wizard, a cleric, a bard, a druid, and a ranger.

The Lamia meets the Paladin
The Lamia using Wisdom Drain

At 4th level, we were beguiled by a beautiful queen of the desert who revealed herself to be a lamia. Unable to see past her enchantments, we were drained of wisdom and became her slaves. As expendable thralls, she sent us to steal the God-King's Eye from the temple beneath the Sunken Oasis. There, we were defeated by a guardian naga who, instead of killing us, freed us from the lamia's control and allowed us to go on our way.

At 14th level, we were contracted to free Aetius, son of Canius, King of Cold River Canyon, from a city of mind flayers. We succeeded.

These adventures stayed with me, and when I began crafting my own stories, it was these characters I returned to. My paladin and his companions would not free a single slave, but two million. My paladin kept his name, Saladan Goldenshield. Even as he rose to kingship, he kept his friends close, especially the wizard Noe Cabal.

The Diamond in the Desert
The Paladin arrives on Lophator

They left their world of origin, Toril, and arrived on Lophator — all two million of them. They had to adapt quickly: Lophator's days last thirty-six hours, with eighteen hours of daylight and eighteen hours of darkness, enough to unbalance even the strongest mind.

My Paladin King would stand against many dark and terrible evils, but none greater than Prysm, a newborn necromantic god. No other gods were permitted entry. Even the elder gods were denied passage onto Lophator. Only a few demons or devils slipped through, and when they did, their gates were swiftly sealed by ever-vigilant solars.

The Paladin King's first son, Drewitt, would have an affair with the Princess of the Elves and father a half-elf daughter, Eikan Silvergleam , igniting the “Royal Scandal.” Drewitt would vanish, and Eikan would one day become my Immortal Empress.

His second child, but first and only daughter, Tarna, would take up her father's sword in her prime. Joined by a pegasus, she sacrificed herself to save the city of Otra from annihilation by a great otherworldly evil. From the survivors of Otra, the Paladin King adopted a young man who witnessed her death: Pandagor Skarlikker.

His second son, and third child, Ernald, would receive the sword, crown, and authority of his father. Far too early, it seemed to Ernald, but the Paladin King knew his time in this world was fast coming to an end. Ernald would become the first of the hereditary kings of Goldenshield. Ernald would reign long and wise and would be instrumental in the defense of Goldenshield over his long reign. Even so, he was only 60 years old, hale, strong, and proud, when he passed the crown and sword to his own son, Lucian, far too early, it seemed to many others.

Soon after he passed his crown to his second son, the Paladin King found himself in the final battle of his long life. Surrounded by his loyal hosts, joined by his priests carrying the Diamond in the Desert, he, and all around him, were consumed by an war vortex and drawn into a demi-plane of eternal war, where he remained until the end of time.

His last son, Aldo, would go on to found the Kingdom of RockCliff. He left his kingdom to his daughters when he took upon himself the "Quest of Drewitt". He was determined to locate and rehabilitate his eldest brother, whom no one had heard from in many long years. Aldo nor Drewitt were not seen in RockCliff nor Goldenshield ever again. But many claim that Aldo's quest succeeded, and that the brothers joined their father in the War Vortex and battle by his side until the end of time.

Using this as the foundation of my history, I began to shape my tales of space and time. In these stories, an Immortal Empress rises to guide the universe. She is pitted against alien races, benign and dangerous, but she is shrewd and incisive, choosing diplomacy over war whenever she can, and more often than not, she succeeds. Her biggest challenge will be from her success, trade flourishes, economies boom, and with the wealth come the corporations. Corporations easily corrupted from either without or within. She is wise and knowledgeable, she forms guardians and safe guards and ushers in a millennium of prosperity.

It all ends when a science lab is raided. A plague is let loose. The apocalypse runs its course, and an end comes to these stories and events.

All of these events take place on Lophator, the world Il'Waarl fashioned and tidally locked to the gas giant Neyarvus.
